The exhibition was divided by the departments of History, Ethnography, and Colonial World. With the center at Empire Square, numerous surrounding pavilions were built, of which the most important were:

  • Pavilion Foundation, Training and Achievement (Rodrigues Lima)
  • Independence Hall (Pardal Monteiro)
  • Hall of Discoveries (Pardal Monteiro)
  • Hall of Colonization (Carlos Ramos)
  • Portugal Pavilion (directed by Antonio Ferro)
  • Ethnography Metropolitan Pavilion, with the reconstruction of Portuguese villages  (Almeida Insured)
  • Popular Life Pavilion (Veloso and João Simões Reis)
  • Brazil Pavilion (Raul Lino)
